On Friday, State CIO Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia and the Office of the Governor called together several community stakeholders to update them on their ongoing initiative to transform government. The presentation came just as the state selected Socrata for its open data platform. Contrasted against the passage of SB2858, it made for an interesting week in [...]
It's been nearly six years since Big Island residents and visitors could enjoy Keokea Beach Park, after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake badly damaged its main pavilion in 2006. This weekend, however, Keokea reopened to the public – with not only a repaired pavilion but a full renovation and expansion as well. A view of the Kohala [...]
Some people just can't stand spam, while others eat the canned meat on the daily. And if you're like our Bruce Fisher, you've entered the jamming world of spam a little later in life only to find out it 'ain't half as bad. All you need to make spam musubis – rice, spam, nori and [...]
Travel agencies and resorts have repeatedly used the term “all-inclusive” to lure travelers. But be cautioned because unfortunately, they don’t exist. Not directly through the resorts anyways. Vacationers coming to Hawaii will find it impossible to book an all expense-included trip, which is why Hawaii Aloha has worked diligently to make it possible for their [...]
Kids can't resist it, and adults never regret doing it – there's something quite liberating about swinging to and fro on those hanging banyan tree roots. And although they're not native to our islands, they're definitely an appealing part of our landscape and history. A giant banyan near the aquarium is one of many throughout [...]
With summer quickly approaching, words like "sunburns," "sunscreen" and "suntans" get tossed around more frequently. Tropical places, like Hawai‘i, use them all year round. So that's why it's especially important to lather up in the islands and don't be like the hundreds who admitted to getting sunburned in the last year, according to a recent [...]
If you stand still, then you'll notice the restaurant's slowly revolving. After a couple of drinks, it's revolving a tad bit faster. A few more drinks later, and you're spinning into the ocean below. Hopefully you won't have to experience the latter, but you should experience the spectacular panoramic view from the very "top" of [...]
As one of the most popular travel destinations, Hawaii needs to stay current on their offers and specials for first time and repeat travelers. But how can you get in on these deals? One way is to spend precious time searching for cheap airfare, hotels, discount sites, and trying to track down coupon codes. But [...]
Looks like Honolulu County will continue bagging with plastic – but only if they're biodegradable. Mayor Peter Carlisle signed into law yesterday a bill that goes into effect mid-2015. It will also include biodegradable paper bags made of at least 40 percent post-consumer content. Shop in style when you're in Hawai‘i. Use these Hawaiian print or [...]
If you happen to visit one of our beautiful parks in Hawai?i, you may notice a furry weasel-like animal slinking around between trashcans and abandoned picnic tables. Sometimes mistaken for a squirrel by visitors, this secretive creature is actually a mongoose. You may remember mongooses (not mongeese!) through Kipling’s Rikki-Tikki-Tavvi, the fierce and beloved pet [...]
OMG ! I had such a great time at "The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa", last month.
Everything was great ! This is the comfortable living room area which led out to my Oceanfront balcony.
The king size bed was too big and I had trouble getting out of it. LOL !
Everybody loves a full stocked mini-bar, except [...]
